Finesse Chop and hammer the existing mount then use a bloody great Landrover engine mount. :D

Gearbox support made, just needs gussets and flat plates welded on the horns for the mounts. I think these rear mounts will be too soft but I have left a bit of height to change them. Anyway the shift comes out in the right place and I have 10mm clearance on the CVs

Yay, we're back up. :D

A quick summary, 002 box is mounted, Porsche 100mm CV's fit, Golf Mk4 brakes fit and seem to work, treated myself to some new 944 discs for "black Friday" £63 for a pair delivered. :D

Modified the beetle handbrake ends to use the Porsche handbrake "swans"

Re-mounted the engine and then cut the hayabusa exhausts off and re-welded at a lower angle as they fouled the rear bars. Gearbox shifter mounts up fine.

Few bits to tidy up - new rear lights location, better mudguard mounts etc. but basically done. Only took twice as long as planned so result!

That's most stuff in and done. Engine has a slight cant, I think the new rear gearbox rubber mounts that I have been dubious about all along are not up to the job. Also the garage floor is not flat.

The spring plates are sitting on their stops until I get in then they are about 2mm off so I have a horrible feeling I might need to pull it all apart and re-adjust the torsion bars. However the bushings are really tight so I will see how it is after I run it up the track for a bit.

Looking good Paul. Great to see it back together again. Drive it first and see how it settles out. Let us know how you get on. Dave's got some of the bits he needs and hopefully he will get his on the road early next year. We've got Sporting bears ride out at the YMCA next weekend and the military museum drive out the week after that. Hopefully might get to drive the ferret this time through town

Sounds like fun! Dave seems to have enough bits to build another one! :D

Need to drive it today so I can get the daily in the garage. Mounted the battery and re-wired the lights so hopefully good to go... Exactly 4 weeks for the IRS conversion - though 10 days of that was the gearbox mount.

My biggest problem will be getting it out of the garage as it is now a lot wider.

Well it's now 3-4mm off the stops empty so seems OK.

Second run the carb froze up, then it got temperamental because it was a bit damp. So having put at least 2 miles on it, it's time to start planning a proper motor...

Stick a bit of IPA in the fuel tank, 1-2% should do it.

Thanks Phil. I have some that I can use so I'll give it a go.
Just generally frustrated with old and temperamental engines  , was going to run it for a bit with the new suspension but think I'll start the conversion now...
